April 7, 2024 - Two years since my last bottle and this has turned into the Burgundian beauty I believed it would. Not decanted, and perfectly ready on the first pour, it was ruddy dark red in color with sensuous cherry and spice, and the star of the dinner party. At peak now but should hold awhile.

August 6, 2023 - 1 hour decant, 60 F. Rich ruby color starting to edge towards a lighter garnet color. Aromatic nose that initially screams Russian River Valley, with cherry cola, wet forest floor and slight vanilla notes. With air, gradually mellows into a more Burgundian pinot with raspberry fruit asserting a lead role and violet notes emerging. Lively acidity, alcohol well-integrated at this point, medium bodied with smooth tannins. Concentrated red fruits (dominated by delicious raspberry fruit) on the palate, spicy oak notes, hints of red licorice and the strawberry/kiwi blend you find in a classic fruit tart. Medium length finish. Still has some time left, and may very well age gracefully for years.

February 23, 2022 - Medium to full bodied, round polished mouthfeel with a bit of heat. Heady, ripe nose of cherry cola, black raspberry, wild roses, and some wet soil. There is some oak, vanilla and cinnamon spice, but it matches the ripe Cali fruit and smooth tannins. Some mushroom and fallen leaves are there showing some development but this is a drink now style of Pinot, and drinking very well right now indeed. A bit of apple skin on the finish but still clear Cali to me.

June 28, 2021 - Definitely, a PN from the cooler parts of the RRV with its cherry cola, clove notes, concentration and weight. I like the silky texture very much but didn't catch the other Burgundian aspects especially compared to other Sonoma producers, Littorei, Montagne Russe, etc. A blend of three vineyards, this wine doesn't stand out as a distinctive pinot, one of my expectations, I suspect.

January 2, 2021 - First time with this one, and it took me to a place CA pinots almost never do: my first tasting of Burgundies, ten exceptional properties (including DRC and Leroy) from the 1990 vintage. Until then, I had not been a fan of the grape, after that: it's slave. This has spice, herbs and fruit all in one, plus heft at the 1er+ level of concentration, style and aging potential. Haven't tasted anything like this in a long, long time. So while I can understand how that would disappoint the usual fan of big/open/ripe CA pinot, I was so un-disappointed that I got up the next morning and ordered more.
