Community Tasting Notes 10

September 18, 2020 - Opens with red fruit--cranberry, red plum, strawberry. Acid tartness led me to calling out cranberry. Some baking spices. Tannin seems to sneak up on me. Good full-bodied wine.

August 7, 2020 - Pnp. On the first day was still quite brawny and tannic. Much better on the third day. Patience required here.

July 11, 2020 - Method: tasted blind; opened the night prior; served at about 65 degrees; Cab glass

Look: deep- purple; a lot of medium-slow legs

Nose: cured meat, blackberry, black cherry, little wet forrest floor, bit of chocolate, bit of mushroom, bit of dried herbs; expressive

Palate: blackberry, dried herbs, maybe some minerality; long- finish of roast meat, mineral, and smoke; dry; full- body; high- rougher tannin; silky mouthfeel under the tannin; medium+ acidity; low heat

Overall: The nose was pretty great, but the palate didn't live up to it with less complexity and the flavors lacked some purity and distinctiveness. The higher amount of tannins also interfered with my enjoyment of the wine a bit. Still, this is a very good wine.

July 28, 2019 - Solid red blend. A gateway to Paso.

June 6, 2019 - Up the PCH; 6/4/2019-6/16/2019 (Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez, Paso Robles, Napa, and Willamette): 53% Syrah, 26% Mouverdre, 13% Grenache, 5% Tempranillo, 3% Zinfandel. Paderewski/Catapult vineyard. Aged 19 months in new French oak (48% new). 1,345 cases.

A big time blend (bigly) - all the major players from Epoch in 1 wine. Very smokey, meaty, from the syrah, with a bit of cherry, cassis, anise from the remainder. Pales in comparison to the other wines offered.
