April 18, 2022 - Very much a clean style of Syrah. If that is your thing, you will love this. Not simple, just on the opposite side of what you get from a Washington "rocks' style. We love this, but also love our "rocks" wines too.

February 22, 2022 - Nose - sage, dark red fruits, slight sulfur
Palate - chocolate, bacon fat, more dark red fruits, viscous, mineral/stone

A bit heavy and overly extracted were the only faults, otherwise decent. Probably worth decanting next time.

May 7, 2021 - Decanted 1 hour. Really tasty Syrah! A wild, spicy, peppery wine with gobs of blackberry fruit. Drank even better on day 2, so I expect this one has a long life in front of it. Drink now - 2030.

August 9, 2019 - Black juicy fruit, pepper and spice. Love the complexity and the long full finish.

(Corliss Estates Syrah) Hello friends. Today’s wine has been among the most challenging-to-source wines coming out of Washington in recent years. We got a small allocation last year—but before that It had been five years since we had last had the opportunity; the 2008 vintage way back on May 17, 2013. We’re one of only a small handful of retail accounts to receive an allocation of this wine (we may, in fact, be the only retailer). Outside of the Corliss mailing list and a few select restaurants, this wine is a ghost. We’ve written about Corliss at length in the past. For today, I’ll offer the condensed version. Corliss only releases three wines outside the winery: a Syrah each spring, and a Cabernet and BDX Blend in the autumn. What has always made Corliss so special—and what continues to this day—is their patience with these releases. They release their wines five years past vintage, well later than 99% of Washington wineries, and that extra bottle age pays wonderful dividends. With five years ageing in barrel and bottle, Corliss wines are usually much further along the path towards integration and complexity than their peer releases. This particular Syrah is a blend of hand-harvested Stillwater Creek fruit on Royal Slope and Corliss’ Canyons Estate Vineyard on Red Mountain, cofermented with a touch of Viognier. It was fermented in concrete and oak and spent 26 months in a mixture of new and used barrels . Now, at its release, it has spent another two-plus years in bottle. Jeb Dunnuck: Copyrighted material withheld. This is a special wine—one that we’re excited to see in our warehouse when we can. It wouldn’t be possible without Lauri and Mike Corliss and their willingness to share with our list members.
