May 23, 2022 - Luftet ikke. Virket som den åpnet seg så hadde vært spennende med noe tid på karaffel

November 24, 2021 - More or less on point with my previous note. A 3 hour decant opened this beautifully and showed that slightly floral, dark berry/cherry halo. There is still a real muscular backbone to this, but it's definitely let-up a bit with age and time in the decanter. Absolutely lovely with glazed ham.

May 10, 2021 - Might be a '16 vintage. Nope. '15. Good fruit expression. On the nose. And solid on the palate as well

February 25, 2021 - We've finally arrived in Beaujolais! Yes, it's still quite a firm and structured Beaujolais, but previous bottles, while delicious, have very much had a Northern Italian feel to them. I decanted this for 45 min or so and the fruit was much plusher and open - sweet dark cherries, violets, blackberry compote. The stonier mineral characteristics softened, but added nice complexity. Tannins still firm, but not quite so mouthcoating. This was delightful with duck confit and these certainly have plenty of life left.

September 8, 2020 - 2015 Château du Moulin-à-Vent was stylish, structured, subtly spiced and mineral-driven. The Beaujolais Cru was medium ruby in colour with traces of fine sediments. Freshly uncorked, aromas of candied dark cherries and violets jumped out of the glass, followed by graphite, liqourice and subtle black pepper spices. The mouthfeel was dry and medium-full-bodied, with medium-high levels of balanced acidity and surprisingly firm gripping tannin. Flavours of raspberry, crushed violet, smoke, black breakfast tea, and a vein of stony minerality persisted in a rather long spiced finish. The alcohol level was at 13.5%.

It was presumably the most structured and deeply coloured Beaujolais I have tasted to date. While I admire its minerality and stylish representation of Gamay, the contrast between floral candied dark fruits, and the spicy tannic backbone might catch the unexpected off-guard. It could potentially be a controversial wine because of its discreet power and extract.

From the technical information on the winery website, the vines were grown on south- and east-facing parcels on granite soil rich in magnesium and other metallic oxides. The must was fermented with significant whole-cluster inclusion, and the wine was matured in 20% oak barrels and 80% stainless steel vats. About 26,000 bottles were produced. A drinking window from 2018 to 2030 was recommended.
