January 16, 2024 - Nose: Cherries, blueberries, leather, gravel, vellichor.

Palate: Soft entry with lots of fruit and a slightly aromatic note. Nicely balanced and integrated acidity. Good concentration and long aftertaste.

October 21, 2023 - More red than the 2 bordeaux's consumed together, both in color and on the nose. Can hold for another 10 years if one wants.

October 5, 2023 - Excellent wine. I'm drinking half-bottles. They seem to be getting even better as the years pass. The wine is rich, juicy, balanced, fine. Needs some time open. Even better on day two. Very enjoyable indeed. I have a few halves left, and it will be interesting to see if there is further improvement.

June 6, 2023 - Briars red fruit with a hint of pine and farmyard.

Warm red fruit, peppery spice and rocky minerlity on the palate. Good balance eith blocky tannins and welcome acidity

Warm, mineral finish. Fruit and a hint of soy. A nice wine.

May 27, 2023 - This is the fourth vintage of this pope for me and I must say Im a bit disappointed. Previus vintages I remember as more tannic, more aromatic and not as much primary fruit, for example 2013. Maybe a bit less oak here which I often prefer but instead the nose is quite boring.

Maybe this will benefit from 2-4 more years of rest before next try.

December 11, 2022 - 2016 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape was complex and light on its feet. The developing Southern Rhône blend was medium ruby in colour, and surprisingly without any noticeable sediments. Aromas of ripe red cherry, blackberry, violets and lavender jumped out of the glass. Over three hours of aeration, it gained complexities of smoked game, black pepper spices and dark chocolate.

The mouthfeel was dry and full-bodied, complemented with medium levels of acidity and polished tannin. Flavours of kirsch and crushed flowers transitioned to black olives, Oriental spices and smoke in a long, delineated finish. It was a real pleasure to taste, and stood apart from some impenetrable, heavily extracted blockbusters in the region. The 14.5% alcohol was well-integrated. The empty bottle weighed 634 grams.

Vines are mostly planted to pebbles on clay on a plateau. Closer to the Rhône river, there are plots of Syrah on well-drained limestone. The wine is predominantly composed of the usual Rhône suspects, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, with the balance of Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin and Maccarèse. Moderate extraction is encouraged through punching down over fifteen to twenty days. The wine is raised in oak barrels and vats, in approximately equal parts, for one year.
