February 15, 2024 - Medium/Dark gold color
Strong aromas of ripe/ bruised apple with pineapple/lychee and strong ginger botyritis aromas - really pleasant
Medium plus bodied with palate of ripe apple and honey - again with strong ginger/saffron - light touch of RS but barely noticeable due to acid
Medium acidity with moderate phenolic bitterness presumed from some extended skin contact - medium plus alcohol
Great finish led by fruit/ acid and botyritis kick at the tail end
Highly recommended - not your typical Macon Chardonnay by any stretch of the imagination
July 30, 2023 - Two bottles served from my cellar with an opening dish of Hokkaido Scallops and light Avacodo salad....previous experience has taught me not to serve this without food. Very deep gold colour reflecting its full or over maturity. Nose and palate are of the ripe tropical fruit end of Chardonnay that has made this purchase a disappointment, although not a disaster at US$22 per bottle. The palate had more acidity and verve than when I last drank it in 2021 and scored it at 80pts. I shied away from it but our 8 guests seemed fine with it.
March 3, 2023 - Served blind. Not an easy one to call. The nose was very tropical with a lot of ripe fruits. But the palate had some acidity, despite having huge size and structure. This really was full bodied. I landed on old world French, and said I thought this was either a super warm burgundy vintage or something from the Rhône (not a bad shout I guess). In the end, it’s Chardonnay, but the lush, ripe palate really takes it away from the more classic Montrachet or Corton whites
December 24, 2022 - Herbacé, manque de maturité ?
Pas à mon goût.
November 29, 2022 - Arm’s length decant produced a startling brass liquid, purring with opalescent murmuration reluctant to traverse the pour. Shy aroma builds from the margin. Silver. Lichen. Salted pears wilted in butter and rosemary. Efficiently textured and heady. Rattan shoot sugar. Fig. Watermelon. Sanded steel rinsed with nougat tea. Bundled, rooted acidity persists on the finish.
January 4, 2022 - Vins compris 4jan22. Nez Demi-sec de coing et pomme. Des notes fumées et boisées. Vin de gastronomie.
September 15, 2021 - Stunning wine
First bottle of 12 cellared at 12 degrees since release.
Beautiful orcha yellow polished with long legs 14%.
Intense tropical fruit nose pineapple, melon and mangos which develops as the wine warms up. Served at 10 degrees.
Biting acidity on the palate initially dominates but dissipates quickly leaving the tropical fruits lingering on the palate and very long finish. Silky buttery mouth feel.
A beautifully made Burgundy that has aging potential.
May 23, 2021 - Full bodied with melted butter, nutty toasted notes, vanilla and a little smokey action. The fruit is ripe sweet and dense. Quite powerful and definitely not subtle and elegant. Not bad at all...
March 31, 2021 - Very deep gold colour more than you would expect for its age. Heavy nose of late summer honeysuckle and sweaty tennis balls. Over-ripe cantaloupe melon. Palate has reasonable acidity but overwhelmingly Augastura Bitters bitterness and bitter almonds. Some sweetness in the background. Headachey on the finish. One glass drank on opening and the rest kept overnight to see if it improved.... it didn’t. I was tempted to think this was a flawed bottle but it is consistent with the previous 4 from a case, so I guess not. Not pleasant.
November 15, 2020 - 14% - Clear, med gold / clean, med+ intensity - ripe citrus, cooked apple, spices (nutmeg, ginger), roasted almonds, botrytis notes / dry, med to low acidity, med to full body, pronounced intensity, long finish with an oily texture. This works very well with a lobster bisque risotto and wild mushrooms. 91(+)
