May 20, 2020 - Very good. Third or fourth time with this, and it's consistently a great pleasure. Luminous brick red core, clear. Exciting nose, with great typicity. Still a wow wine for me on the palate. Medium body, long, elegant finish; packed with freshness, potential. 14,0% abv., drink now thru 2027. Just 13k bottles produced. highly recommended

August 11, 2018 - Nice Rosso from a top wineyard on Montalcino. Medium to full body. It’s not your most food friendly Rossos but it’s delicious on its own.

July 11, 2018 - Was a bit closed and somber on day 1 when I drank about half, and came back for the rest tonight. Schwing! The extra time busted it open and now it's just flat out a joy to drink. Cherry all the way through from color to nose to palate. As the nose opens, there are some faint mineral and earth tones but they take a back seat to the ample fruit. Medium bodied even at 14% alcohol, nicely balanced, assertive but not harsh tannins on the attractive graphite-inflected finish, where the alcohol shows a bit. But the star here is the very ripe cherry fruit. When people refer to Rosso's as "Baby Brunello," I think this is what they mean. If drinking soon give it a good decant.

April 8, 2018 - Upon opening I couldn’t understand this wine - the attack was of such highly sour cherries, in the middle there was nothing and the end was dark bitter chocolate and herbs, maybe sage? Felt disjointed and I didn’t really like it. A few hours into the bottle the acidity seemed less obvious and the fruit now spoke of red cherries, raspberry, and bitter blood orange. The middle was then filling up, and the ending seemed more fresh and while still herbal there was no evident chocolate which suited this fresh rosso better. In the end I am left liking the wine a lot better, and perhaps this just needs a few years. I won’t be finding out though I am afraid, as I will be directing my sangiovese journey to other places.

Edit: two days later with the last of the bottle from the fridge and I am raising my score from 89 to 90. The wine had then taken on a lot more heft, and with the acidity not at all as prominent, the midpalate filling out with an intense almost sweet cherry fruit, this is now a really good wine.

February 17, 2018 - Benvenuto Brunello 2018, Montalcino centro; 2/16/2018-2/19/2018 (Montalcino): (Benvenuto Brunello, 2018, Montalcino) First tasted three weeks ago at Benvenuto Brunello NYC tasting, and I liked it, giving it a recommended+ rating. Today's tasting, for whatever reason was even better. It's nice to see that at least my notes were similar between the two events, if the rating was not the same; this is the reason that points don't work, but I digress. On to the note: luminous garnet, bright, and very pretty. Superb, exciting, and very bright nose offering excellent typicity(+), big, sweet tannins, and plenty of depth of flavor/aromas. This is just stunning on the palate (my note says WOW!); medium-bodied, red-fruited, LONG finish, structured and balanced. It's all here, and it's only getting better going forward. And this is a Rosso? Again, wow. 14,0% abv., drink 2018-2028. highly recommended

January 29, 2018 - Benvenuto Brunello NYC (Gotham Hall): One year in 20 and 30hl Slavonian oak casks. Pretty, bright garnet/ruby color, with fresh floral, soil and red fruit aromas. Pretty, structured, balanced, it's hitting all the right notes. Not easily sourced, but worth the effort if you can find some. A true baby Brunello, thru 2027; should evolve nicely. recommended+
