April 9, 2023 - Fresh & mineral with flavours of sour cherries and cranberries. Dry and savoury there was a hint of sweetness supported with velvety ripe tannins, and finishing off with a classic upturned slightly bitter finish. Perhaps lacking a little complexity, possibly because I served it too cool, this ticked all the boxes for the classic Chianti style I love. CHP 88 pts
March 11, 2023 - A savoury entry supported flavours of dried cranberries and cherries, shot through with a streak of acidity and surprisingly mellow tannins. The sweet fruit develops complexity, finishing on a fully dry note. From a fine vintage and drinking superbly it had that classic Italian sweet/savoury balance. Drinking superbly. CHP 90 pts
February 24, 2023 - After the Riecine, this is leaner, earthier, grippier, but it's still a hugely enjoyable fresh chianti.
January 14, 2023 - This followed the Riecine and although not quite as good, this was still a very satisfying chianti, with some almondy red fruits and a nice grip.
August 20, 2022 - An initial burst of sour cherries is followed by prunes and chocolate underpinned with gentle ruffled tannins. It broadens out nicely on the palate and altogether rather delicious. 89 pts
February 10, 2022 - Sweet ripe cherry and cranberry fruit set in a velvet texture with pleasing soft tannins. Spicy and warming, the fruit, tannins and acidity were all in perfect harmony and the result was delicious with the bonus of a decent length of finish. From a great vintage and a cracking buy from Waitrose at a tenner a bottle on promotion. 89 points
June 19, 2021 - Red forest berries, huckleberry and blueberry in nose, in palate furthermore sour cherries and leather
November 4, 2020 - A bit hot and fiery. Dark, substantial. Lots going on here.
October 10, 2020 - Hinting at modern, very enjoyable and food friendly.
July 7, 2020 - I have been a fan of Villa Cafaggio in the past, but this is surprisingly dull. Really very little going on. Decent Chianti, but underwhelming. Nothing unpleasant. Disappointing.
