August 30, 2023 - Mild cigar box and menthol on the nose; clear, pale garnet in the glass. This grape variety was new to me (a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio) and we both enjoyed it greatly. Dry with a medium body and nicely rounded tannins. Cola, black cherry, slight licorice and muted fruit. It is a well integrated wine with considerable finesse. It pairs like a Rhone blend.

August 6, 2023 - Drinking really well right now, maybe approaching its peak but it certainly has some life left in it. The primary fruit of a ripe vintage is mellowing out, the black and sour cherry are now reading more as kirsch, and that’s all surrounded by dried roses, fresh savory herbs, soft ash, and mint. With an hour in the decanter the mint picks up speed and evolves into menthol. Tornatore often feels more Burgundian in style to me compared to other Etna producers and the tannin development here has a classic black tea feeling that reads more Burgundian than Sicilian, but the acid structure reminds you exactly where this came from. Truly a delight.

May 6, 2023 - Just okay to me. Nothing wrong but nothing special. Red cherries, nice clear wine - brickish color with satisfying balance.

April 23, 2023 - Mostly Nerello Mascalese w/ some Cappuccio. Decanted. Bright, med ruby w/ a garnet rim. Med+ aromas of wild red berries, ripe red cherries, violets, medicinal herbs, forest floor, wet stone and earth. Just a touch of oak spice from 18 mos. in used barrels and cement. Dry, with tart red fruit, crisp, med+ acidity, med tannins and med (+) alcohol. Very well-balanced, moderately complex, with med+ flavor intensity and a long, generous finish. Burgundian in character, but with more ripeness. Tried 3 different bottles, showing considerable bottle variation.

March 14, 2023 - This was rather tight (although very pleasantly aromatic) upon P&P, so we recorked the bottle and drank it this evening. The character was quite different....tannic, full, with a mix of cherry cough drops and an odd, hard-to-pin down phenolic character. It did not appeal much to the other two tasters but I liked it. Definitely different.
