April 5, 2024 - This was firing on all cylinders tonight, really drinking great and my WOTN up against some heavy hitters. The aromatics on this wine were so exotic, full of Indian spices like cardamom. There was a slight animal quality to the fruit, which was very complex and pretty. Special wine for sure.

February 29, 2024 - Haunting black and blue jungle fruit, juicy, exotic perfume, night flowers, orange fruit. Stellar vintage quality. 94

December 31, 2023 - The 2016 Bizot Le Chapitre is drinking beautifully today, sweet fruited and perfumed. From a 0.5ha plot just south of Dijon, this Bourgogne offers serious intensity and depth. In blind, I would likely call this a Premier Cru, maybe Gevrey Chambertin? Fragrant array of raspberry, candied cherry, and confectioned spices from 100% new oak. 100% whole cluster and not filtered. Firm backbone but very delicate still. Delicious. (91/100)

November 14, 2023 - Opened in Tokyo. P&P and enjoyed slowly.

This was ready to play right from the get-go. Incredible sweet, seductive, red-fruit aromatics as per usual with modern Bizots. Very natural given that JYB eschews sulphur. But this wine is a lot cleaner than something like Prieure Roch, and also doesn't have the 'funk' usually associated with a natural wine.

The whole cluster influence is very apparent, especially given bourgogne level grapes. As such, it comes across as very stemmy and quite green, but not in an unpleasant way at all. The greeness in fact comes across as slightly herbal - like a toned down Rayas, and it just adds to the complexity of the nose.

On the palate, this wine is extremely light, and perhaps a bit darker than the nose would suggest. I find it amazing that JYB can coax such a nose and mouthfeel from this appellation. That being said though, you can't cheat terroir completely, and the body doesn't match up to the nose. No complaints though, this is a wonderful treat.

Unsure about upside, given this wine for me is all about the nose, and you want the freshness alongside its signature fruit and stemmy aromatics. Will keep at this level for several years at least, but I'm inclined to think that this should be enjoyed (fairly) young. Of course the QPR is insane - but if you are lucky enough to have some in your cellar, then don't hesitate to break out for a special occasion.

June 14, 2023 - Sour cherry popcorn minerality pure.
Relatively muted on the palate, pure.
Mid weight, less intense than the vosnes.
    Very pretty.
