September 7, 2019 - Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whts, & 8 Reds] from 09/6/19 + 2 Shared, Milton Freewater (Aka: The Rocks) AVA Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "Whole cluster pressed while still cold from the field; Barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts; Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrel; Aged 10 mos in FR oak barrels (48% new), 5 months in s/s; (Coopers: Cadus, Damy, Louis Latour, Francois Frères, Gauthier, & Leroi); Aged sur lies with biweekly bâtonnage; Unfined and unfiltered; bottled January 2018"

N: BUTTER with notes of sandalwood & spice

P: MF body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish OAK/frt counterbalanced by an acidity which transitions into a LONG, BALANCED, tangy/swt finish with glimpses of bitterness that, IF it resolves, by VG+ will DEFINITELY be low. 95 pts Dunnuck, 92 ea WA & Suckling, and 91 ea Vinous (Galloni) & WS. [Be wary if buying this, as wine-searcher's LARGE # of postings are HIGHLY skewed, ranging from $39-$68.45!]

Note: First tasted on 7/21/18. Also, FYI, based upon my TNs of 7/8/17 & 8/23/19 for the '15 of this, it looks as though *I* may have "issues" with this bottling once it gets even a BIT of age on it. :(

August 17, 2019 - Calif. Chardonnay 2016 Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley $53. Dark gold; okay, peach, stoney fruit, nutty nose; round, ripe (15.0 alc). long oaky lush semi-hot finish; a little one-dimensional. w/Alaskan salmon.

July 21, 2019 - A 15% alcohol white wine? Only in California. The nose was slightly daunting and suggested an oak monster, but the palate said otherwise. Full bodied, with big tropical flavours of mango, passion fruit and pineapple. The only negative for me is that it lacks a bit of acidity and perhaps veers into flabby territory? Having said that - I’d happily glug it any day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

April 12, 2019 - No formal notes. General impression, decent qpr. Citrus and minerally driven.

March 4, 2019 - Tasted at the Skurnik Grand Portfolio Tasting in NYC. Poured by Matt Hobbs. I was told this had 60%new French oak (in another note SRH indicates a lower 48%??) Lots of buttered popcorn on the nose. Palate is rich and buttery with medium acidity to balance it to some extent. Oakiness comes through on the finish as well. Nice texture and lemon/citrus in the mid-palate. Somewhat typical Cali Chard for me. QPR???
