January 23, 2024 - Opened with a 2001 Grange and what a beautiful contrast. The Grange is more my style because of the aging but this wine was incredible as well. Double decanted for a three hour period before drinking. Wonderful cassis berry in the front and darker plum in the mid, with a 60+ second fantastic finish. This would be a perfect wine for young CaliCab drinkers. There wasn't any significant acid present and the tannins had settled out well so I'd say there another decade of great drinking here but don't think it will evolve into a Grange!
October 13, 2023 - Decanted for about 30 minutes and ready to go. Fairly light on its feet for a B-C Cab, not a lot of mid-weight, but silky smooth on the palate. Some nice floral aromatics, but not a whole lot going on with the nose. Warm plum, tobacco, good acidity on the front of the palate with a long mint and licorice finish. The slight lacking in the weight and aromatics keep this from being a typical upper 90s B-C Cab but still an excellent bottle.
July 4, 2023 - Another 4th of July wine. But glad we drank this now. The color has started to change, less vibrant and the fruit is less newly ripe and bright. Don’t get me wrong, this was excellent for the style (we were ready for a full throttle Napa cab at sea level!!) but I can’t believe the difference between my last bottle at Christmas and this one. I did question at the time whether it would begin the decline soon, but I didn’t expect so soon.
Anyway, big ripe and some mature dark fruits. Good acid and silky tannins. Alcohol slightly out of balance initially but better integrated with time and air.
2 hour decant and then drank for 2 more
June 15, 2023 - Double decanted about 1 hr prior to serving, which seemed about right as there was not much change over the next 1-2 hrs. Deep ruby garnet color. Heavily perfumed, with rose petals and more violets on the nose with a hint of cranberry. Violets, licorice, leather, ripe blackberry on the palate with a lingering 37-40 sec finish and drying tannins. Great without or with food.
May 30, 2023 - 30 min decant and was a great wine with steak. I recommend giving it a try.
February 7, 2023 - Awesome wine. Celebrating some good news at work and decided to open this on a whim on a Tuesday night. Polished off relatively quickly as this was open from PnP.
December 18, 2022 - A little disappointed that I didn’t see any improvement from 2yrs ago, still a very nice wine. Would have thought the body would have filled out a bit more.
Had together with an ‘18 Vice Versa Kalon which was tremendous but still young. Will leave alone for a few years.
December 17, 2022 - awesome gets better as it opens an hour or two.Medium finish
July 15, 2022 - smooth and elegant, one hour decant, Great vineyard and winemaker,
February 5, 2022 - Pretty close to ready to drink. Give it a short 30 minute decant. Fruity and complex. Steak and truffles go great.
