May 22, 2021 - Nice wine, but lacking something and a few points from the great '15. Rich, dark fruit but not jammy after a 1-2 hour decant. Lots of blackberry, some cedar and a hint of orange rind on the ending. Excellent matching acidity which will carry it for quite a few years, yet. Overall, excellent weight and structure, however the 16.1% alc is noticeable and does hold this back from a higher score. Because of that and the overall lack of the 'electricity' the '15 had, it's hard to score it any higher. My worry is the fruit weakens from here over time and that the alcohol becomes more pronounced, too. I have one left and probably won't let it go too much longer, but will try it with much longer decant and see what it does. Probably WOTN for most, for the first night of our event.

May 21, 2021 - One hour decant. Deep dark magenta color. Cherry, pomegranate, rum cake, and pencil cedar on the nose. Smooth, dry, almost creamy palate. Full, plush tannins on the longish finish.

The only real flaw here is the noticeable alcohol (16.1% abv). It drinks beautifully nonetheless. Drank this with Mark1NPT and jenmermaidia (and our very patient spouses) at wine-a-palooza 2021.

December 1, 2018 - Barrel sample. Should be in bottle shortly. This is a blend of their Beckstoffer vineyard sources. I think in this case, they should've kept the Missouri Hopper out of the mix, because it adds that funky smoked meat and barnyard element to the nose that is a bit off putting. Basically everything else about this wine is really great, with super concentration, big bold black fruit, lots of earth, soil and savory elements to go with fine grained tannins and big time length. This is a very large wine that is barely hemmed in by the frame, but it manages to rein it in at the last moment and makes for a very nice blend of high end fruit.

November 29, 2018 - B Cellars: As before, the Heritage took on much of its overall profile from the characteristics injected from the Missouri Hopper site. A hefty amount of meaty and earthy fruit, with a chewy charcuterie element that at times elevated the tiers of flavor, but also distracted from the otherwise beautifully haunting dark fruit. Medium-to-full bodied, representing a more throttled-back version of the Missouri Hopper (by comparison at least - keep in mind, all of these B Cellar Beckstoffer wines are immense in their current states).

Hold the Heritage for a couple of years once it gets in bottle. As with the MH, I hope a little time to better integrate some of its butcher shop qualities will serve well for the Heritage. 95+ points.

February 8, 2018 - 3-Day Napa Cab Taste-Off: Vice Versa, B Cellars, Memento Mori, Alpha Omega, Purlieu, Janzen, Realm, Myriad, MACDONALD, Maybach, and more...; 2/7/2018-2/9/2018 (Napa): Barrel sample. Another massive creation, pumping out layers and layers of ripe black and deep red core fruit. Blackberry, black and red raspberry, black cherry, smoked meat, beef's blood, Chinese five-spice, hot blacktop pavement, freshly turned soil, and oak char.

The Missouri Hopper's smokey, meaty influence on this Frankenstein made for a bit of a gamey Cabernet blend. The initial attack rode well across the palate until the mid-palate and back end picked up waves of bloody, Cornas Syrah-like notes. An interesting wine that certainly has some resolution to undergo in the coming years. I'm optimistic this will all shake out once the wine is in bottle; for now, however, the injection of the MH juice left this sample a little disjointed. As always, purity of fruit seemed extremely high, if not a touch over-ripe. 92-93+ points for now.
