August 5, 2023 - Very good. Another great Roll Ranch syrah. Always a great vineyard for syrah.

December 5, 2022 - Similar to my previous notes …. Decant for two hours; she’s still tight. But offers up an abundance of black and blue fruits with some wildflowers and tar notes in the bouquet. Superbly balanced even though this offering is still young. Drink now to 2035, easily. Outstanding.

December 3, 2022 - Served with braised lamb shanks, as well as the 1996 Roll Ranch. Much fuller bodied than the older brother, and rounder/smoother on the palate. This is still very primary and fruit forward, but certainly in balance and should reward a long rest in the cellar.

December 2, 2021 - This is a beautiful wine. Decanted for three hours. Balanced with plum, boysenberry, peach, grilled beef and incense. Vibrant purple in the glass with a dark fruit bouquet that jumps out of the glass and an impeccably balanced finish with hints of cocoa and espresso. Might be our favorite Roll Ranch Syrah ever. Still youthful, this will offer pleasure through 2035 or longer. Outstanding.

July 31, 2019 - Very attractive plum color in the glass. Some "sourness" in the nose. Blackberry and prune on the tip of the tongue. Then some slate. A fairly big wine, especially, when compared to other Ojai reds I've had, lately. Similarly, more tannin than I have seen in recent Ojai wines. I think this wine can improve with several years of aging. On the other hand it is perfectly enjoyable, tonight.
