November 11, 2021 - The last of my fire sale Bonny Doons, this was a good syrah. A little dust on top, with good fruit underneath. Moderate finish, soft tannins.
As has been the case with everything else I bought, a good value at the price I paid, but probably not worth the regular price.
June 22, 2021 - Bright, tensile, and full bodied, this shows tons of verve and personality. It delivers inviting aromas of dark fruit, graphite, asphalt, and wet earth. The palate is vibrant, savory, and a shade salty, with fine tannin and plenty of fruity goodness to balance the gorgeous, spice-inflected and licorice flavor profile. Absolutely delicious.
July 19, 2020 - Much better than the first bottle. The overpowering eucalyptus note was absent, the wine was a little riper, and overall a nice cool weather syrah.
December 26, 2019 - If powerful cool-climate syrah is your thing you'll probably dig this. Strong, almost overpowering hit of eucalyptus on the nose (almost like drinking wine in a freshly cleaned steam bath), with a nice herbaceous undercurrent only teasing a hint of fruit. The fruit is a little more evident on the palate but not much, the dominant notes being those of the nose. I got this on sale for $32, which I guess is fair. Finish bitter enough I'm tempted to say "aspirin-y." Tannins polished and well integrated. Not a huge fan but I'll reevaluate my other bottle in a year or so.
June 7, 2019 - Good a but $42!!
October 13, 2018 - This wine is delicious. It would would be interesting to do a side my side comparison with a similar level of quality Cote Rotie like a Guigal. Fresh, fruity, luscious, balanced, and rich. Would be an eclectic pairing opportunity for glazed salmon, glazed pork chops, or possibly even Chinese BBQ ribs.
