May 6, 2022 - 2015 Catherine et Pierre Breton Bourgueil Clos Sénéchal was aromatic and nuanced. The developing Loire Cabernet Franc was clear and medium ruby in colour with a noticeable amount of fine sediments. Perfume of blackberry, raspberry and violet jumped out of the glass. Underneath were notes of pencil shavings, farmyard and enhancing green bell pepper.

The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, complemented with a medium level of powdery tannin and a rather high level of balanced acidity. There were flavours of forest berries, celery and graphite in a medium earthy finish. The alcohol level at 12.5% was very modest in modern days. The empty bottle weighed 597 grams. Though it did not have the level of concentration and complexity of Les Perrieres cuvée from the same producer, Clos Sénéchal represented a great example of elegant, biodynamic Cabernet Franc from th Loire Valley.

General winemaking information is available on the winery website. The Cabernet Franc vines are cultivated on clay and limestone soil on a hillside, ranging from thirty to fourty five years old. The grapes are completely destemmed, and undergo an alcoholic fermentation of three weeks on ambient yeest without any additions of sulphur. The wine is raised in two casks for twelve to twenty four months depending on the vintage.

October 12, 2021 - Fully developed and mildly leathery, this was okay but not delightful. From a restaurant that didn't include the vintage on the list ( something I detest), I am sure it has been in storage there for a few years because of Covid. Would not conclude much from this except about the brett.

September 28, 2020 - 100% Cabernet Franc. 12.5%. Perfumed nose. Riped red fruits, fresh, sweet. Medium acidity, medium- tannin. Very approachable and good for daily drinking.

April 12, 2019 - Much deeper, darker, riper, and more spicy than your grandfather's Chinon, but enough green herb and soil to keep it well within the Loire Cabernet Franc universe. I think back to the 2005 and what a different wine that was (so backward, lean, and structured) from a vintage that was considered ripe for the time.

March 24, 2019 - Third Coast Soif (Chicago, IL): Definitely a lot riper in body and heft. Black fruit, green pepper, and a touch of earth. Clean. I like the overall ripeness here; works well with the more vegetal character of the grape.
