Community Tasting Notes 3

    January 28, 2019 - As you may have noticed, the first wine we tried from San Gregorio was coming out of Sannio, a DOC that has strict regulations on how the grapes are grown. Campania IGT offers more leeway, freeing the winemakers of certain laws and plot constraints. Being one of the main protagonists in the renaissance of southern Italian wines, this winery really checks all the boxes when it comes to regional/varietal expression of Falanghina.

    This was some heavy stuff in the glass (felt even on the swirl). Not highly aromatic, but definitely much fruiter than the rest of the batch. Notes of baked apple combined with freshly sliced pear and brioche. The acidity is a tad sharp, which would be ok if the wine wasn’t so damn dry. Has a highly pronounced saline character - like taking the bottle, dumping it open into the sea, adding butter to it and shutting it. Such an intense wine (to say the least), coming in second favourite with the crowd.

    July 12, 2018 - colour of ripe lemon; clear; very good. nose: tart citrus fruits plus some soft sweetness; fresh; good. taste: medium byt refreshing acidity; medium bodied; grapes, hay, soft peach; very good balance; pleasant.

    April 25, 2018 - Well...I had heard not to many complimentary things about previous vintages....BUT...this 2016 seems to have heralded a turning point for this white from this honoured producer( I still have 2 bottles of their ageworthy Falanghina 2005!).....the Albente tasted here;
    On nose: a good balance of light floral and peach and apple skin.
    On palate:light minerality, a follow through of above flavours with light acidity.
    This wine is NOT meant to age....drink over the next year with pasta dishes with cream sauces or cold chicken.
