January 30, 2022 - Deep purple, elegant and aromatic delivering Plum, blackberry, tobacco and white pepper. Full bodied, lively acidity and well integrated tannins. Pretty good offering here. NI:4, FI:22, FC:8, B:4, L:4

November 3, 2021 - 91 Granate bastante cubierto. En nariz es bastante monolítico, madera nueva de calidad, fruta roja por detrás, lo esperado. En boca mejora, con una acidez muy interesante, sensaciones cremosas y , en general, mucho equilibrio. Tanino dulce y buen final. Un vino excelente para una tarde otoñal.

November 1, 2021 - 100% tempranillo from two high altitude vineyards (45yo vines) in the north of La Rioja. This puppy is done for 16 months in 50% new French & 50% new American oak. Needed a good decant beforehand. Did 30m but should of gone longer.

A powerful combo of red fruit, old leather, espresso, pencil shavings, bakers chocolate, cigar humidor.

I compare this wine to a tiger. Super elegant but still has the power to Siegfried & Roy you.

December 11, 2020 - Very disappointed with this wine. Very subdued, fruit and finish, soft and round to the point of being bland, like $10 bottle bland.
Maybe it was just a bad bottle. Proximal part of cork broke off after initial corkscrew extraction. After getting distal half out, the bottom of the cork looked ok, and the wine didn't smell or taste like it was corked.

December 7, 2019 - Decanted for 3 hours then drank over the next 4 hours.

This is a very good wine, though is modern in style for Rioja. Heavy usage of American oak here somewhat disguises the underlying fruit. What I can tell though of the fruit is that its nice quality and silky.

Nose has roasted notes, tobacco, chocolate, lead.

Palate has similar along with blue and black fruits. Stronger tannins. We found them enjoyable, but you may want to wait a few years for this to settle down.

QPR at $40 seems spot on. I've heard some comparisons with La Rioja Alta Ardanza or even 904 but I don't get it; the nose complexity and tertiary flavors of LRA are a completely different class ahead. Then again, those wines don't come to market until they're 8-10 years old, so will be worth checking back on this Sierra Cantabria in 5 years to see if its matured.
