February 9, 2024 - This was my note from 2017 and it pefectly reflects how u I felt drinking it at the Luton Hoo Hotel 7 years later.

Decanted for 1.5 hours and drank over a 5-course dinner at the Connaught in London. Best showing yet. An absolutely fabulous nose, one of the most intoxicating I have ever experienced. Lovely on the palate as well with all the classic Mouton characteristics. The finish though was a bit disappointing, perhaps reflecting the vintage.

February 6, 2024 - Opened to breathe, decanted at Christopher's in SLC. Great bdx nose, cigar box, earthy tobacco. On the palate, medium bodied smooth and complex. Very dry fruit with forest floor earthiness and clean acidity in the finish. Intellectually stimulating but not delicious. 92/93

December 25, 2023 - A smooth glass of wine, but at 25 years of age, it doesn't have much complexity.

December 22, 2023 - Beautiful nose of ripe strawberries, cigar box, tobacco leaves…. Drying tannins present, red ripe fruit, the nose is 10x better than the taste at this stage!! Can keep 5 or 10 more years to be perfectly mature!

December 2, 2023 - Second bottle of this in a month, and this one, slightly better than the last. Prominent flavors of tar and tertiary funk, both of which I like. In a great drinking spot.

November 2, 2023 - Maybe this isn't the greatest of vintages, but at 25, this Mouton performed at a high level. Heavy flavors of charcoal, graphite, moist soil. A bit more fruit would have improved/rounded the wine's profile. It has not turned tertiary. Drank well upon opening but has the structure to benefit from hours of air. Easily has another 10 years in a peak window, so no need to rush consumption.

October 30, 2023 - Dégustation de 30 millésimes de Mouton Rothschild

    1998

Un autre millésime qui se présente sur du fruit bien mure, un peu fermé avec une certaine astringence autant au nez qu'en bouche. c'est jeune mais tout de même accessible. Correct sans plus, encore une fois ca manque de dimension.

September 30, 2023 - Classic Pauillac. In a plateau stage IMO. Agree with some of the recent reviews that it is on the lean side. Not exciting but good drinking. Drink sooner rather than later. Improved over the night and gained weight with air.

September 21, 2023 - Bloody ruby, dense, a touch of brick to the rim.
Dense attack, saline silty frame, some mulch and (cardboard), developed fruit. Builds some gorgeous plump fruit – raspberry! black olive, cassis in time, and mint. On return, liquorice and fig.

Palate a little pinched at first, and spicy (positive), fine grainy, resolved tannin. Sort of open and loose… elegant and mature. Super supple core. Medium-bodied but has follow-through too. Fine, long, perfumed notes of graphite.
    Very enjoyable, balanced.

July 3, 2023 - Been saving this one for a long time and uncorked it for my 25th wedding anniversary at Bazaar in DC. Worth. The. Wait. Cork came right out, and we decanted for about 20 minutes before drinking. Classic Pauillac nose of cigar box and cedar, black fruit, some red fruit, vanilla, a bit of soy, licorice and earthy spice. Healthy ruby color with slight bricking at the edge. Tannins are extremely well integrated and yet the fruit is still fresh. Powerful, yet light. The finish goes on and on, almost a minute. A great wine. Drink now or in the next couple years.
