Community Tasting Notes 4

March 26, 2022 - Sealed under screwcap. Medium pale garnet-carmel in color. Nose of fresh and dried cherries, mushrooms, a hint of baking spices, minerals, fresh forest, a bit of decomposing soil. Light bodied, mostly resolved, but still very fresh. Fresh cherries, juniper, dried cranberry, and some black pepper for the palate. A light tannin structure on the back of the tongue is still present and brings in a faint tea taste that lasts with the finish. Long sour cherry, black pepper, graphite, and granite finish.

I am more and more convinced that screwcap wines will age wonderfully and have no concern buying them up when I see these 10-20 year old wines on WineBid. I am convinced if this was under cork – it may have not lasted this long. I don’t think this wine was intended to be a deep wine even when young – but it managed to age gracefully.

November 1, 2008 - Apples and cranberrys on the palate. Good amount of tannins as well. Medium bodied.

August 20, 2007 - This time we let this one breathe a bit before diving in and it paid off. Deep garnet or violet in color and very rich flavor profile complete with bright black cherry and plum fruit. Some notes of dark chocolate and spice in the background. Good length of flavor and persistence. Clear acidity and ruby nose.

March 31, 2007 - This is the first Pinot we opened when the Rucks came over to visit. It presented beautiful color and an excellent nose. In our effort to get into the evening i probably did not let this capture enough air before consuming. Even a half hour in the decanter would have made a tremendous difference. By the time we were at the end of our glasses and the bottle this wine was drinking wonderfully. Great flavor combined with excellent structure and balance. Well worth obtaining another bottle to enjoy at a bit more leisurely pace!
