As every year, for me one of the best Chianti Classico along with Felsina’s Colonia, also the I Sodi di San Niccolo is labelled as IGT and is known as a Supertuscan in cause of the regulations in the 70‘s. Nevertheless from today’s point of view it’s a very traditional wine and very near to the gran selezione parameters. If the QPR is important for you, this wine is one of the top products from the Chianti Classico area year by year.

The vintage 2014 is more classic than 2013 had been. With flavours of sour cherry, some blue berries, some violet, a little bit of earthy forest notes, some black pepper. The Nose is also bringing some thyme and rosemary after the fruit notes. After two hours there had been some hints of rosewater, but not as intense as in 2013.

I guess it’s a bit too early for this vintage and it will improve over the next years. But it was a very pleasant companion to a big steak. Now it’s a 94 for me, but maybe it can reach a 95 with two more years in the cellar and with not more than one hour of air. In my opinion Sangiovese loosing something with too much air.

November 23, 2023 - 1 hour decant in glass. Rich garnet with dark ruby edge in color. Nose of cherry liqueur, pipe tobacco, newly tanned leather, tar and glints of espresso. On the palate: bing cherries, tar, rose water, minerals and espresso. Silky tannins are well integrated, perceived primarily on the cheeks and gums. Long finish of red berries, tar and subtle wood spice. The wine has impressive intensity from nose to palate to finish and is very dynamic. Not sure I'd say it was linear across the palate, but there's certainly no "dead spots"...just getting different flavors / elements from front to back.

September 2, 2022 - Nydelig, Nydelig vin. Fyldig, deilig. Skikkelig deilig vin, og med kjølig og fersk frukt blir dette noe av der bedre sangiovese kan gi, i alle fall, til meg.

September 5, 2021 - Hard to rate this wine, because it was bottle 3 or 4 of the night, and we were having a bunch of fun. All I remember is that it had a nice sweetness to it, after that, its kind of a blur. We paired it with curry Quail, BBQ wings and hot wings that we slow roasted over a cherry wood fire that we tended for two hours -- hence the drinking while we cooked. We also paired the birds with bow tie pasta with a bunch of fresh veggies and garlic, with some lemon and Parmesan cheese. Good living if you can find it.

July 10, 2021 - The wine looks garnet colored. It smells like tar. It tastes like alcohol/hot. The body is medium. The wine has medium acidity.
