May 19, 2019 - This is, I believe, my 5th Musar vintage - 98,99, 01, 04 and now 11. Clearly this is way too young, but I had to try. I am coming to the conclusion that Musar verticals are nonsense. Every year has a completely different stylistic and can be compared to a completely different wine region. So is this now like a very good barolo with at least 5 years to go before it should be drunk. It is tight, very concentrated, powerful wine, with little of the usual Musar orange peel. Leather, earthy tones and high complexity. It will push 93-95 in 5-10 years. Now it should really be left alone.

    May 10, 2019 - Ung mørk rød.

Intens duft av moden rød frukt. Krydder og lær.

Fyldig med god syre. Krydret frukt på smak. Mye, men fine og tydelige tanniner. Balanserer fint med syre, og kommer til å lagre fint lenge.
    Saftig, dyp, krydret utgang. Lang.

    93/100

April 29, 2019 - Tasted next to the 2004 vintage. Darker in colour, less expressive with more dark fruit on the nose. Spices, smoky notes, green tobacco. On the palate ripe tannins, a little tight, good acidity and overall balance. Fine length. Needs time, but not unapproachable. 90-91+(+)

April 27, 2019 - The wine is clear, medium red core with a very thin watery rim, developing

The nose is clean, medium intense aromas of red berries, ceder tree, dark plum, strawberries, developing

Palate is dry, medium+ ripe tannins, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol, body and flavour intensity with aromas of red berries, ceder tree, dark plum, leather, hint of oak, leather, long finish

Well balanced, long finish, medium+ intensity, lacks some complexity at this point. Very good quality with long potential, 89-90p

March 10, 2019 - Very clean aromatics on the nose here, with none of the classic Musar funk. Polished fruit notes of cassis and candied cherry up front, with a little spice, leather and wood in the background. The overall impression is rather Bordelais. Palate is jammy and fruit-forward; deliciously cool and accessible, but showing an alarming lack of structure and grip (quite unlike the 2009 I tried a few weeks back). I can’t see this being a particularly long-lived Musar, but it gave a great deal of pleasure tonight.
