July 23, 2022 - Wonderful bottle age integration. Cassis, black and blue fruit, eucalyptus, and a touch of crushed mint. There's an elegant richness and lots of brightness to the candied, fruit-driven palate. Picks up a whiff of root beer on the charming finish. A really nice showing.

February 11, 2022 - Pretty good stuff. Benefits from air. Fairly dense chewy wine with quite pleasant lush black and blue fruit, accompanied by a very long finish. New world but good.

January 24, 2021 - Flat vanilla coke with a splash of Bacardi 151. Overly oaked, with some heat on the finish. Was a little more integrated the second day, but still disappointing. Biale and Stag's Leap do a much better job with Petite Sirah.

November 23, 2020 - Inky dark. Lots of plum, blacberry, and dark cherry. Liked it best with salted dark chocolate. Big hit at Thanksgiving with dessert.

August 19, 2020 - Count me in as a fan. Wonderful dark fresh cherry on the nose. Big time flavor - blackberry predominates, with some dark cherry and modest heat as part of a long finish. A wine that should be aged. Lay this one down for a few years or more - you will be rewarded.

April 11, 2020 - Royal purple in the glass. Deep. Cherry, charcoal, syrupy nose. All smoke and pepper in the mouth. Pepper finish as well, though all on the tongue and nothing in the throat. May need to open up for a while.

Do not buy again. The remainder of the bottle made a good sangria but I did not like enough to purchase again.

March 26, 2020 - Big, hot fruit bomb with lots of chocolate notes developing over time. Did get better balanced with 2 hours of air. Fruit ranges across the universe with blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, rhubarb and citrus. Body hollows in the mid-palate. Crowd pleaser.

February 8, 2020 - This is not a pop and pour ready-wine and unless you like cloying fruit and a disjointed finish, you will be disappointed if you drink it that way. It really needs at least a 1.5 hour decant and it starts to gain some balance with integrated, fine, long tannins. Deep and opaque eggplant color. The bouquet is very floral -- roses with some stems. Fruit forward palate with lots of blueberry, blackberry and vanilla. Medium plus acidity and very full body. Viscous and weighty texture. Not a hot finish, but warming. Long finish -- velvety smooth and classic Caymus house style. This is a glorious version of Petite Syrah. Straightforward, but delightful and will be broadly appreciated.
