December 2, 2022 - So clean. Light for a blend.

July 3, 2021 - Should add that unlike the last Pirie hills we consumed that we decanted 90 minutes before consuming and the wine was much the better for it. Unfurled considerably in the decanter.

July 3, 2021 - Absolutely delicious now and with the feeling that it could have been very good for years to come yet. Some bottle age has smoothed and mellowed the blend. Was excellent with beef short ribs and compared favourably with French wines also consumed that evening. Full mouth feel but. It acidic, warming and coherent, still some freshness to the fruit.

January 22, 2020 - Fading fast, at least this bottle sold at the new Clevedon gastropub was. Not corked but fruit character disappearing.

2010 consumed previous night was much more vibrant.

    13.5%, cork.

January 4, 2019 - PnP. Deep ruby, moderate clearing on the edges. An earthy, clean nose of menthol, eucalyptus and fresh liquorice. Dark fruits present underneath in cassis and dark raspberry. Over time this evolved from earthy to more spicy in mature cinnamon bark and five spice and clearer red fruits. On the palate it's juicy red and dark berries in cherry, raspberry, blackberry and cassis. Heading into earthier tones of coffee bean and dark chocolate with nut - like scorched almond chocolates. Right at the end there's a black pepper and umami character. A moderate moutfeel with present, long tannins integrating well with the fruit's juicyness and acidity. This is fine, long and elegant, delicate in its complexity. Drinking well now, but has time left in this beautiful Auckland blend.
