December 26, 2023 - Beautiful. Has evolved from light cherries to a deep mature mix of cocoa, raisins, coffee, leather, markedly dry and long with a bit of sandy tannins lingering.

October 23, 2021 - Medium-deep blackberry juice color. Deep, dark, and alluring on the nose, with rich, ripe dark fruit aromas of blackberry, mulberry, and plum, as well as dark chocolate and crème, charred wood, and smoke. You can also smell the strength of the wine—just gives a powerful impression. All of that comes through on the palate, held together by a very firm structure of drying tannin supporting its broad, muscular frame. On the finish, there's a spiciness that doesn't present itself on the nose, and plenty of lingering ripe fruit flavor to balance nicely against the tannin.
This is an excellent Dolcetto—one of the best I can remember—and a really classy, luxurious bottle of wine. A great example of a big, bold wine that nonetheless remains elegant and well balanced.1 person found this helpful Comment -

March 11, 2021 - Much better than the first attempt, and took my own advice about not decanting.
The extra years did this well. Tartness and flatness are gone. Wine has terrific tannins, great weight, and just enough acid without becoming acidic. Nose has caramel, chocolate, red currant. Palate is similar with rich flavors, blackberries more cocoa and those satisfying tannins. Glad I waited this one out. -

August 25, 2019 - Based on other reviews, gave this a 3 hour decant. I didn’t find the wine to be overly tannic but the acid is high. For whatever reason it did not pair with tomato sauce well at all. This is better with charcuterie, chocolate, tangy berries or perhaps a cream sauce dish.
Purple body. Alluring nose of sandalwood and cedar that comes and goes. Palate is ho hum table wine, a little primary, that could benefit from more drying elements and spice. Next time I won’t decant and will pair with simpler fare.
We are big Pira fans and hadn’t yet tried this entry-level wine. Has some promise but probably will just stick to the barolos.
