Community Tasting Notes 22

October 30, 2023 - I am trying to reconcile this with all the prior tasting notes. This is enjoyable and easy to drink, but I can’t justify the rave reviews here. I find it a bit overly ripe and soft to be truly remarkable although as said, enjoyable. I would prefer this as a wine on its own rather than with food as it needs more acid with food. Very clearly a California Pinot Noir.

February 5, 2023 - Wow. First night really good, a little coiled and reserved, powdery red and blue fruit. Accidentally left uncorked all night, second night more expressive. Recorked, now on night three and this is the Wow. Expressive small berry fruit, powdery tannins, baking spice, some cedar even. The finish is unusually long and persistent - no ebb and flow, just there. Wonderful slightly darker fruit profile, moderate alcohol, and great balance that belies the exceptional intensity and persistence. Marking my last one “do not touch until 2028.”

June 16, 2022 - Red berry floral notes on the nose that wash over you as you swirl the glass, inviting you to inhale over and over before even tasting. We are lucky to have a fair amount of Ceritas in our cellar, and because the wines are often so good off the bat, it is challenging to hold them long enough to see how they develop over time. This was our last 2016 Hellenthal (sigh), and man oh man did it deliver. Totally balanced dark red fruit, structured tannins that melt away, and humming acidity - the combination is mouth-wateringly delicious. Kudos to John and Phoebe Raytek.

January 29, 2022 - Lovely wine (as is the case for almost any Ceritas wine I’ve tasted), clear, medium-bodied, red berry fruit with a hint of nutmeg, fabulous mouthfeel.

January 1, 2022 - Wow! Pure dark red fruit, lithe, elegant, scrumptious, energetic, the first and last sip equally delicious. This is good juice!
