Community Tasting Notes 4

December 11, 2015 - This Cornas is very unimpressive and is a real disappointment, after cellaring it for years. It has a dark purple black color, and a nose of dark berries, plums, prunes, and oak. It has tastes of black fruit, but this fruit is muddled and certainly not ripe or juicy. There are also tastes of menthol, cedar, garrigue, and herbs. The wine also lacks the typical Syrah pepper and spice notes. It tastes flabby and has lowish acidity. Overall, it is medium bodied with a moderate finish. Seems past it's prime

May 14, 2011 - This was part of a blind Syrah tasting. As it turns out two of us brought the same wine - one had been double decanted and the other wasn't opened (Greenblanket dislikes the term "pop and pour" almost as much as he dislikes "meh" and "killer juice") until the tasting began. The decanted wine scored considerably lower than it's non-decanted twin. Greenblanket found both to be sleek, spicy, and texturally appealing.

June 17, 2007 - I know we drank this wine way too early, but I'm glad we did. Dark ruby color, spices with hints of tobacco and leather on the nose. The palate has a burgundian likeness (somewhat light), silky, rich and sleek. The finish is smooth and long with a good tannic foundation. This wine is a star in the making and will be a killer in a few years.

November 19, 2006 - Made from 100% Syrah this wine was aged in French oak for 19 months. Deep, rich red in colour this wine has lots of oak, cigar box and vanilla characters on the nose. The palate is rich with plenty of red fruit and spice. Drinking nicely.

Tasted in the Grand Tasting at the 10th Decanter Fine Wine Encounter, Landmark Hotel, London.
