April 25, 2008 - The nose hit me immediately upon opening the bottle -- very sweet cherry, then some sour cherry. Very powerful as it quaffed out of the bottle. Upon pouring, there was also some leather, and something kind of herby or grassy. I usually don't get so much off of the nose as this, but this one had a lot of aroma (all of it good).

The color is a bit translucent, but very red ... slight brickish red/brown hue (especially on the napkin after wiping the lip of the bottle), but a quite nice red, clear on the edges, in the glass.

The flavor is better than I remember from my last bottle, but still not something that excites me. I can taste the Sangiovese, and a bit of the Cab Sav ... but in general it feels a little flat and the finish has is a bit acidic and bitter. We were having fried chicken, mashed potatoes, bread, and mozz/tomato salad for dinner. I tried it with the food, but this only increased the acidity for me (as tends to be the case with most food/wine pairings for me). On its own it is less acidic, especially before the finish.

I aerated all but a glassful for about 30 minutes (back in the bottle now). The cherry can be tasted, especially on the long finish, but it is much more subdued than it is in the aroma. The leather (?) is more prominent in the mouth. The finish is quite long, surprisingly, which usually encourages me to go back for more. A slight spiciness is present, but it is not pronounced.

As this has been open a for a bit now, I am starting to appreciate it better. Still not super thrilling, but I am hoping the tannin mellows a bit more with extended breathing and the fruit from the aroma starts to show more in the mouth. I'll probably have some semi-soft cheese and some sharp cheddar with it later to see how that goes.

February 10, 2007 - A bit strong on the alcohol, but great other than that. Earthy smell. Dark berries, heavy.

January 15, 2006 - Did not like this bottle -- very acidic, tense.
