June 3, 2023 - Expectations were very low based on our previous bottles and also recent TNs. Couldn’t even meet those expectations. This wine was definitely defective. VA was off the charts. Sour and nail polish remover odours. There must have been unclean barrels or even the stabilization tanks prior to bottling must have been corrupted by bacteria or something. This wine is undrinkable. We’re thinking of returning our remaining bottles directly to the winery this summer.

March 3, 2022 - Drinking through these, which has become somewhat of a task. If BH had any sense they would offer people with any of the 16 Syrah remaining a replacement credit for something different.

March 1, 2022 - Hurm, there is Volatile Acidity on the nose and an unavoidable sourness in the core of the palate. Paired the first glass with fettuccine in Gorgonzola cream sauce with shallot, asparagus tips and smoked bacon. Capped the rest of the bottle, put in the fridge and will braise short ribs in the days ahead. Bad, insufficiently cleaned barrels led to this.

January 23, 2022 - Not bad. Very smooth , polished, liquid silk - too much so perhaps. Blackberry blueberry profile. Did not find the bitter finish others have. Bit lacking in character.

December 29, 2021 - Black Hills Syrah Vertical - 2014 to 2019: Had blind as part of a 2014 to 2019 BH Syrah vertical.

Still tasted youthful, bitter/sour on the finish. Benign.

Ranked 6 of 6 - it was close between this and the 2019 for which was the worst.
