April 11, 2020 - Second bottle better than the first, but a bit of a lightweight bottle. Short on expressiveness.

June 1, 2019 - Cheval Blanc Vertical ‘Chez Elke’ (Hotel Hohenzollern, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler): This was a good but not great bottle of the 1966 Cheval. I really enjoyed it but if you know what this wine can deliver if you hit the right bottle I couldn’t help being a bit disappointed.
Chocolate, mocha, medicinal, Japanese mushrooms, long and medium weight finish

June 1, 2019 - Herbal nose with toffee, wood with a bit of smokiness almost like smoked ham. A tiny bit of bitterness held it back from achieving higher scores

May 29, 2019 - Route 66 - Bordeaux Exploration (Vaucluse Townhouse): St Emilion B: Perhaps my wine of the tasting which is really saying something given this line-up. This wine was awesome. I think I have a soft spot for good structure and this had that in spades (I believe I used the term nice backbone). Nice age where the secondary and tertiary are coming out. It's a bit more savory than fruity but that savory is all fresh and vibrant. Revisited throughout the night and every time just awesome.

(Château Cheval Blanc) Bricking medium red violet color; mature, earthy, black fruit, graphite nose; good tart plum, black fruit, cigar ash, graphite palate; medium-plus finish 92+ pts. (poured blind; my 2nd guess was "old Cheval")
