April 21, 2024 - This riesling was a bit more sweet than I expected but it was still nice. There was stone fruit, apple on the palate with nice acidity. Medium minus sweetness.

December 21, 2023 - Thrilling combination of ripe peach and green citrus in an off dry, medium weight package with zesty acidity.

January 14, 2023 - Medium yellow. Crystalline nose and palate of lime and stone fruit with tingling acidity and stoniness. Very crisp despite moderate sweetness. Early days for this wine.

September 21, 2022 - powerful stuff, mineral sweet tart, which I like, though the sweet here I think slightly overpowers the other elements. very very long there's no denying the quality here

July 18, 2022 - Great nose, could smell this all day. You can almost smell the energy. Palate has so much depth and intensity while still somehow being so light. Fantastic bottle of riesling, but still probably even better in a couple years.

January 29, 2022 - Method: pop and pour; 50 degrees; white wine glass

    Look: medium straw

Nose: unripe stone fruit / yellow peach, light lemon, light minerality, salinity, light spice, light honeysuckle

Palate: lime, unripe nectarine, minerality, salt, faint spice (ginger?); medium finish minerality, faint parsley; low+ sweetness; med- body; high acidity that's most apparent on the finish

Overall: I was concerned this might be in a muted phase, and I think that's the case. Really wonderful acidity that's balanced pretty nicely with just a bit of sweetness, although I wouldn't mind just a bit more sweetness or ripe fruit to create a bit more tension. The notes on the nose and palate seem subdued. It's possible this might need more air, but likely needs some more time in the cellar. If this comes together and becomes more expressive with time, this will be a pretty special wine. Great wine today, largely due to the wonderful acidity

July 12, 2021 - 92-93pts. Very young of course, with some oak still not fully incorporated. Beautiful minerality, but I'd like a touch more of acidity to balance its residual sweetness. Does get better with air, as expected, and is never cloying. Peaches, some white chocolate, a hint of very ripe mangoes, and apricot. I'd wait 5-10 years to open another bottle.

October 20, 2020 - Clear straw color. More muted nose than I expected but it was cold. Livened up as it warmed. Honeysuckle, honey, apple, orange, minerals. Glorious in the mouth. Too young , but superb mouth feel and balance. Honeyed nectar with the slightest hint of petrol.. Long complex finish. One of the best German Rieslings I have had.

April 25, 2020 - The zip of a young Donnhoff. Ample acidity. Citrus and tropical fruit salad. Unfortunately, it’s lacking in minerality.

December 7, 2019 - I normally only drink Mosel Spatlese Riesling wines with about 7 to 15 years of age on them. When I buy multiples of a wine, I always open one just to test sample the handling/storage of the wines. This wine is extraordinary for such a young wine! Balance and white peaches. You can smell and taste white peaches, this is a first for me.
