  March 22, 2024 - Double blind. Deep red color with a lovely bouquet of black fruit, dried herbs, asphalt and melted licorice with a terrific earthy/funky/barnyardy overtone. Full-bodied, with medium tannin and flavors of black fruit, white pepper, game and earth. Good underlying acidity. Lengthy finish; well-balanced across the palate. Easy to pick out as a WA syrah, it was just a matter of whose it was. Excellent. (Doc)

If I had tasted this blind I would have said it is Syrah from Rocks District from a very good producer, because it does taste like that. Given that this vineyard is in a completely different location with different features I am very surprised at how many characteristics it had in common with Rocks Syrah - flavors, high pH, soft tannins.
  Blueberries, strawberry, meaty, licorice, black pepper, mint. It really needs a lot of air. It started off bitter on the finish which is how I find most Rocks wines, but after air this more or less went away. Tannins are very soft and there is just enough acid.
  Really ready to drink now, but can obviously age for some time yet, but having tasted aged Rocks wine before my personal preference would be to drink this on the young side.

  October 1, 2021 - US BYO (Esmee): Dark cherries, liquorice, coffee and different spices. Overall, a nice impression, but there was a wall of tannins and the wine never really opened up.
  The aftertaste is highly bitter which is something that I normally don't enjoy. It didn't interfere with me as much this time, but it did feel like the wine was slightly off balance.
  Still, not a bad wine. It just needs time!

  May 5, 2021 - Raspberries, blackberries, and spices covered with a dusting of cocoa powder. Velvety tannins. Impressive balance and elegance, and already drinking well. A fantastic wine. 97+
  
  A 2017 Jamet Cote Rôtie that I tasted afterwards showed more red fruit and more youthful tannins. The 2017 Cayuse Armada Syrah appeared slightly more tannic and less balanced.
