October 7, 2022 - Great value, spot on Riojja. Juicy, fruity with a good amount of tannins and structure

    February 13, 2022 - Russk. Better than I remembered.

November 1, 2021 - - Brick color with slow forming legs and aromas of black pepper, smokey and coffee. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of blackberry, black currant, cherry and smokey with a medium/full body. Round texture with a medium finish - Decanted two hours. Smoked meat nose. Good rich fruit, wine aged well, could cellar longer.

October 15, 2021 - Deep ruby with medium optical density and medium primarily specular reflectivity. Aromas of rich fruits with some confection and earthy-spice laden notes in almost equal proportion to the fruit. Nice intensity and some complexity, but not much depth (more of an open-frame type of structure on the nose).

On the palate, medium to full body with refreshing zingy acidity and integrated tannins for a plush texture that casts a broad net. Overall, polished and even, with a touch of open-grained grip. Flavours of tart red fruits (cranberry, cherry, and raspberry) lead the attack, supported by florals and tar notes. Some crushed dried flowers and tobacco leaves hit on the midpalate just as an herbal spice wave takes hold- think baked aromatic herbs, like fennel and sage. As well, there is some darker fruit to be found, but mostly this is hidden behind the brighter flavours. The finish shows dried leather and some cherry pit, with some smokiness. Has a clean and medium length finish, and shows strong intensity and medium complexity overall.

This is a great value wine that still shows plenty of primary freshness, for an easy-going red that is versatile and excellent as a dinner wine. Would pair well with herbal-baked dishes over a wide range. Maybe just a touch thin or showing that confected note that can obscure what's below the surface, but certainly this is a robust red that has great value and crowd appeal. Pretty classic example of the region as well. Nice.
