March 30, 2024 - Pulled this bottle for a quick getaway trip with the wife. Back to Sedona.....

Another CT'er mentioned stewed and that is a good term. A little bit oxidative, maybe stewed or preserved baked fruits. Loved the nose.

Was only allocated one bottle so I feel good about the timing of this pulling this from the cellar.

March 17, 2024 - It may just not be my style. Funky nose of stewed plums, bacon fat and cola. Full mouth feel. A touch sweet, jammy, but there is some acidity on the mid palate and beyond. It's a good wine; just not in my style.

June 7, 2023 - So sad, my one and only bottle of this vintage. I actually rarely buy the SJR Syrah from FM, and I'm not sure why. The bottle was opened, but not decanted, for over an hour at a NYC restaurant before serving. It was part of a Syrah tasting with my wine group. The others where a 2015 Torbreck RunRig, and a 2004 Sine Qua Non Poker Face. Hard to say which one was my favorite. Long finish, great nose. A treat to drink. I had it with Mutton!

May 22, 2022 - Opened too early! This was super tight and took a long time and some aerator use to get it to open up. Much better the second night. Savory syrah, with flavors of grilled meat, smoke and mineral. Good acidity as well. I'd hold this for another 2-3 years. Drink 2024-2036 for best results.

April 12, 2022 - Coravin’d a glass a few weeks ago and it was really tight, but still showed lots of potential. Pulled the cork today and wow! The coravin must have introduced just enough air to loosen its grip and show strong rocks character and complexity. This will certainly improve with time in the bottle or lots of air. Delicous!

June 6, 2021 - Double decant. Consumed over 5 hours. Core or sweet red and blue fruit. Floral and peppery notes. Saline and funk is there but it’s subtle and classy. Quite possibly the best rocks syrah I’ve ever tasted. Perfectly rounded with no harsh edges. An absolutely gorgeous effort from force majeure.

June 4, 2021 - Crazy purity, intense cherry, strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, violets, cinnamon, clove, cedar, ham, incredible precise and pure with a velvety mouthfeel. This is one of the best Syrah’s I’ve had from Washington, it’s open out of the gate but got better with a few hours of air. Amazing.

October 11, 2020 - Two hour decant. Nearly opaque magenta color. Black currant, roast beef, turmeric-laced white pepper, blueberry, and brown sugar on the savory, yet fruit-filled nose. Smooth, lush, smoky palate, with silky acidity. Firm, full tannins on the long finish.

I’m just not into Syrahs these days, which is why the score is what it is. With that said, I understand why Jen Dunnuck gave this a perfect score. Great mouthfeel and structure.
