April 19, 2019 - Rating albarino, like dolcetto, is a bit like assigning a score to a just picked crispy apple on a warm October day: it gives so much perfect, simple pleasure, it's so fulfilling in the right setting, that judging it seems demeaning, superfluous. Occasionally, some albarinos have off notes, things that are green, bitter, or metallic. This bottle, though, is damn near perfect, with its bright lemony acidity, light creamy mouthfeel, and delicate notes of white pepper, meringue, green pear, and marcona almonds. More salinity, and a greater celebration of citrus fruit than in most sauvignon blancs, but with a comparable texture. Perfect with crab cakes, or any white fish or scallop with lemon butter.
