January 23, 2021 - Dark purple-red in color. Soaring aromas of ripe cassis, candied black raspberries, graphite, hint of ripe pipe tobacco and cedar. This still shows concentrated and smoky black small fruits, cocoa, medium (-) acidity, fully absorbed oak, fine tannins and a sweet and mineral tinged finish. Still 20 years young!

March 22, 2020 - Delighted to say this is still going strong. Went great last night with Cathy's short ribs braised for 9+ hours. Tannins from this once-brooding, mountain-grown cab have finally resolved, and the flavors of cassis and plum were apparent, as well as scents of cedar and mocha. This was pure pleasure to enjoy over dinner at home and the rest of the evening as we "sheltered in place." I don't see it evolving further, but IMO it could remain on the plateau of maturity for 5 more years. We'll see; have 3 more left out of 6. Looking forward to drinking my last bottle (of 6) of 2001 Pride Cab Franc next, all of which I bought direct from the winery when I was on its mailing list.

December 23, 2019 - Still plenty of life, but perhaps a bit better a few years ago in a more youthful state. Black cherry, cocoa powder, tobacco, fig, vanilla and sweet spices. Rich and juicy, but seems just a little tired on the back end.

October 17, 2019 - It’s not old yet, but getting there, clearly in late stage, probably declined from its peak. A bit earthy, slightly unbalanced, and dull. Not my favorite bottle of Pride

October 6, 2019 - Consumption window should be pushed out. This bottle had plenty left.

September 15, 2019 - Big mountain Cabernet with blue - black berry fruit, graphite and grippy ripe tannins. Finishes with a bit of heat, so drink on the cool side. Still very primary after 18 years, this will have a long life. Not showing any signs of age in the color either. Not sure this will ever soften and improve adding complexity as it’s so big in fruit and tannin. Probably best with a big piece of grilled beef.

On the third night open this wine finally softened and filled in showing juicy blackberry fruit, a bit of mocha, softish ripe tannins and no sign of heat. Delicious.

August 9, 2019 - Double decanted this at 4PM and started drinking it around 7PM at Ana & Josh's place. It showed a fair amount of sediment on the decant and doesn't need much air. Semi opaque ruby red with cherry red edges. Profuse aromas of; tobacco, cedar, expresso and berries. Love the BDX like nose! The mouth feel is sensual, resolved and yet still lifted. Rich, chocolate covered berries, cherries, raspberries, cedar, licorice, and spice on the palate. Big mountain fruit but not heavy or flabby. Delicious new world that is still in my wheelhouse and always makes Josh & Ana happy since they have fond memories of visiting Pride with us. These might go till 2020 and beyond but I doubt it improves from here on out. This likely hit its peak a few years ago. My last of 4 and quite good tonight.

June 6, 2019 - huge wine, classic big calif cab with great fruit but moderate tannin on initial coravin. uncorked 2 weeks later and had mellowed after 2 hr decant, little dirty on the palate like old style St. Estephe. Probably 3-5 yrs from pea and will last a long time.
