January 28, 2023 - Needs 30-40 min to open up in a decant. Then really blossoms into a Cornas style but with that Walla Walla barnyard funk. Betula Aspen

February 26, 2022 - Open in the bottle for about four hours, but it really hasn’t changed much since about 2 hours. Nose is clearly Rocks Syrah: lots of savory, briny, umami notes on top of a sweet cherry liqueur with a background of barnyard funk. Very likely polarizing but I love it. Palate is similar to the nose—if a bit lighter than I expected—with some ripe plums and a long, savory olive-briny finish. It definitely screams “Rocks” but it doesn’t smother you with heaviness or richness. Quite nice balance, paired well with a Scottish trout, glazed turnips and eggplant purée dish.
Update: after a night in the fridge, the remainder of the bottle is in a pretty sweet spot: still has the rocks syrah typicity but much more mellow and knit together than last night. Definitely give it some time or if you’re drinking now, decant and serve somewhere between cellar and room temperature. 92+ with the overnight rest. -

December 19, 2021 - Olive tapenade and something like cantaloupe on the nose. On the palate, blackberry, brine, olive tapenade, and notes of iron and something citrusy, with no detectable tannins on the long finish. This doesn't quite meet the standard of some previous vintages, although it's still excellent, and it was a very good value at about $60.
