November 17, 2023 - Medium to dark golden yellow, perhaps slightly oxidized. Nose very tropical fruited with a hint of caramel, vanilla and butterscotch. Unctuous texture, rich and chewy. A little residual sugar, it seems. Flavors reflect the nose with a little more freshness. Not much of the telltale lychee in this one. Reasonably good with some Japanese food.

April 14, 2022 - Golden color. Very ripe peach and apricot flavors, decent acidity, with ginger spice. Mouth coating and a very long finish.

March 17, 2022 - D3 Tasting Prep with Mike, Sarah and Lauren (Mike's House): Tasted Blind

A: medium gold (almost amber actually)
N: Pronounced nose of quince jam, apricot , honey, honeysuckle, bruised apples, crème brûlée, vanilla, caramel apples, ginger, saffron (marmalade from Lauren)
P: medium sweet, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, full body, medium (+) intensity, medium (+) finish

The acid does not balance the sugar and therefore the wine is not at all refreshing. Length and intensity are good and the wine shows considerable complexity. Its a very good quality wine.

The wine has enough acid to age but unless the sugar drops, this thing cannot improve.

    Guesses:
This was a single region flight. Coteaux De Layon makes wine in this style and I thought the quince and yellow apple helped me into this category. Again the very present wet rock made me think of the Loire

    Mistakes:
The color. I dismissed the pinker tone that I was seeing in the wine. Gewurz usually has a pinker tone. I forgot about Alsace having very dominant wet rock in their wines.I failed to pick up any more florals than honeysuckle and that was really not as pronounced as one would expect. Usually this grape is easy to ID. It wasn't today.

July 30, 2021 - Drank a small glass. Two hour slow oxidation. Medium lemon in the glass. A stunning spectrum of ultra-ripe stone and tropical fruits; peach, apricot, mango, guava, and lychee with highly perfumed, floral notes of fresh red roses and honeysuckle, a touch of white pepper, and pickled ginger. A rich, oily palate that despite the clear ripeness of fruit and elevated levels of residual sugar provides great balance and harmony. This is a beautiful expression of Alsatian Gewürztraminer.
