    December 25, 2023 - Still good

March 7, 2023 - One off as part of a multi-bottle private party purchase ($60) of Selyem SVD pinots. On the nose and palate, red cherries and currants and lesser notes of cranberries and strawberries, earthy minerality, lavendar and mint and rose petals. Medium garnet, medium+ bodied, medium legs. Medium acidity, medium tannins, no heat (13.5% abv). VG complexity, persistence and intensity. This was good to go off the pour and has stayed constant for 3 nights. As a relatively non-pinot person, I’m fond of many of Selyem’s cuvees and the middle place they occupy between the opulence of KB and the asceticism of Rhys (probably a bit closer to the latter than the former, particularly this bottling). More savory and even slightly tart than sweet, this wine is drinking very well on its own but perhaps is even better with food, accompanying the prodigious leftovers at sfwl’s abode, first pork tenderloin and orzo then crabcakes. For my palate, this is bang on in its drinking window with good prospects for holding this for several years but not clear where the improvement would lie. I’m yet to find a pinot that speaks to me the way QC, Flac, Ovid, etc. do—even the more rarefied versions of the species from across the Pond, which I rarely drink because of price and even then they fall short, for me, of the BDX varietals (but by all means, if you have a stray DRC and want to convince me otherwise, come on down!)—but this makes for a really nice change, almost a palate refresh, with welcome lift and a bit of raciness. CT score right on the mark. 93+

February 5, 2023 - Beautiful rose in glass. Floral, cinnamon and stewed fruit on nose. Beautiful acidity and background tannins. Plums, cedar and spices on palate. Perfect with salmon!

October 9, 2022 - This was fantastic. In a very good place. Beautiful red ruby color, no sign of age. Effusive nose of cherries. Impeccably balanced on the palate, medium-bodied, juicy acidity, 13.5%. Cherries and some blue fruits, slight creaminess, just gorgeous. Finish is long and juicy. No hurry, but this is so good now. These need a bit of time to show their best, but six years seems to be a good spot.
