July 1, 2022 - Pale ruby color with brickish meniscus. Beautiful. Low intensity nose of stewed plum and leather.

Decanted for 90-minutes. Initial sips were sour cherry, shoe leather, cigar box and moss. This had great depth and tertiary flavors.

Long finish of leather, plum, and licorice.

Dry, med+ bodied, amazing acidity, and layered beautifully.

    Wow. This was special

May 8, 2022 - PNP. Forward and delicious from the start. Earthy and rustic, expressive, a bit like a good vintage of a modern Rioja. I like the style, and it’s enjoyable now. Doesn’t have the subtlety or complexity of the 2007 or 2008. However, every vintage of this wine that I’ve had seems to be enjoyable young as well as in the medium term. I would not hold the 2009 much longer, however. It’s time to drink up. I am interested to see how stronger vintages perform in the long term from this producer.

November 13, 2020 - Audozed for ~ 1 hour uncorked then decanted prior to serving. Immediately rewarded with a nose of rich black cherries, earthy leather, forest floor, floral hints, and a spicy thyme herbaceous note hidden in the background. The black cherries and leather transfer to the palate with hints of earthy, tree bark / black tea astringency on the finish suggesting this wine is just hitting its peak. Has developed very well since my previous note about 2 years ago, very bright and harmonious with great balance between the acidity and tannin (oak and grape), classic old school Brunello. This definitely is moving into the upper echelons however not quite in the league with 2013 (the overall complexity isn't there IMO). $35 (JJB) was a steal for how this is drinking now and my evaluation will reflect the value, however Tuscany has done so well since '13 that these types of steals are probably in the past. Overall Evaluation: High A- (93).
