March 2, 2024 - Closed on nose. Oak heavy. Too young and not enough decant to be approachable. Sense of depth.decent

February 3, 2024 - Nice light tawny colour starting to show its age. Lovely nose of plums and blackberry almost going into a dried fruit characteristic but not quite. Still fresh given it is 8 years old. The notes from the oak aging give it a cedar profile which is also lovely. On the palate the alcohol is apparent and the acidity was nice. Flavours of black fruit, a hint of vanilla, and starting to get a bit smoky, but not many tertiary flavours coming through yet as it is a bit young. Overall a lovely wine with lots of power. It could have aged for much longer. However, it was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

July 16, 2023 - I find the 2016 vintage to be sublime, but in this case I think more time in the bottle will improve this even more. On opening floral notes and black cherry (almost cola). After an hour this rounded out into a tasty and smooth black cherry and plum dominant palate, with rose, coffee and tobacco secondary notes. Fair bit of oak on this but super elegant and smooth, so no complaints about this. High quality though pricey, but I think it will get better. Easily has a couple of decades to go.

July 14, 2023 - Earth, grit, acid and jammy undercurrents. Great for a weekday acidic meal like tomatoes or hearty cheese and crackers

May 7, 2023 - A nice long decant, some red fruits, some thyme and rosemary. Drinking alright now, might be better in the future but this is honestly not good enough to waste cellar space. I payed around 70$ cad here for it and it's really easily beat by cheaper Brunello's. It's not a bad wine, just not much QPR here.

November 14, 2022 - Medium/light body. Nice palate of reserved red fruit, particularly dried strawberry and dark cherry, with a hint of Mediterranean herbs. Fairly tight (or taut) and gripping with iron laced tannins on a long dry finish. Drinking nicely now, but I suspect it would benefit from another 2-3 years in the cellar.

May 21, 2022 - Robe rubis claire. Le nez est vert avec des note de sel de céleri, de paprika, d'anis et de fenouil. La bouche est passablement complexe, longue. Les tanins se développent avec le temps. Encore jeune, il pourra vivre longtemps.

April 7, 2022 - Dark ruby in color. Rather fruity on the nose with some figs and dried cranberries. Soft but still spicy on the palate with some sweet cherries. Rather long finish but not very powerful.

September 1, 2021 - Montalcino 2021 Brunello Trip; 8/26/2021-9/1/2021 (Montalcino, Sienna Province, Italy): With vineyard visits finished, I hung out at the Enoteca di Piazza for some wine tasting to add to the list. 16th wine was Banfi's Poggio Alle Mura. Dark purple burgundy, soft nose. Big Brunello first taste of currants, blackberries but then into a bit of tannic mix of a finish, dry but not developed. Didn’t quite work out in a good year.
