July 19, 2019 - Stewart NOMAD Tasting (Yountville): Fresh off a blind 2016 Dr Crane tasting where this came in 8 out of 9, it was interesting to have it again without the crazy relative comparison. It certainly fared better for me. Nose of cherries, violets, loamy earth and wet stone. The overall freshest of the 16 Nomad lineup, this hits the palate with a terrific flavor profile of pure rich blue fruit with well integrated tannins and a nice spine holding it all together. Great mineral driven elements leading to good complexity and overall multi-dimensional character. Vibrant and fairly long finish.

June 8, 2019 - 2016 Dr. Crane comparative blind taste-off (Saint Helena - Vice Versa cave): Like the Alpha Omega, this wandered around the palate with some misdirection and competing crunchy earth versus bitter currant notes. Registered a little high and alcohol-flat on the mid-palate. Finished with a plum/prune note that provided for ripe flavor, but didn’t necessarily deepen the concentration. A bitter chocolate note sauntered in and saved the day, but it still finished a little booze-ridden and grainy.

My #8 of the 9 wines tasted.

June 8, 2019 - 2016 Dr Crane Blind Wine Comparison (Vice Versa Cave): #8 of 9 on my card and #8 of 9 overall. This and the AO Crane was clearly on the bottom tier. This just didn't have the concentration, structure or overall character of the best wines in the tasting. In comparison it was lighter bodied, very floral and just lacked a lot of interesting qualities.

Violets, blueberry pie, black cherries and crushed rock on the nose. Medium to full bodied, this shows delicate blue fruit flavors and mineral qualities with lighter tannins, a slightly watered down tasting core and a shortish finish. It tastes "good" but next to some of these epic wines it really showed it isn't on their level.

December 28, 2018 - Aromas of violets and flowers. Integrated tannins, dark fruits, blackberry and cassis. Smooth voluminous mouthfeel. Delicious.

September 19, 2018 - This is a terrific representation of the Dr. Crane Vineyard. Tasted over 2 days using Repour to keep it fresh. Nice opaque purple coloring with slight red around the rim. Lots of blackberry, licorice, earth and mineral on the finish. This is more elegant than in your face so for those liking big tannic wines, this might not be for you. For those that prefer a blend of old world meets new world, this is for you.

    More notes to come...
