October 5, 2020 - Frustrating day, so I wanted something reliably delicious. Dirty & Rowdy and Evangelho Vineyard both tick the boxes. The 2017 is fresh, lively and quite slurpable, with the typically sappy Evangelho fruit on display in a lighter form than in some years. That just makes it more delineated, and within a few minutes it fans out completely like a magician displaying a deck of cards. Fruit, earth, herb, spice - it's all there, and floating along an underlying structure that is all but invisible. Before I know it the glass is empty. The magician has turned another trick.

July 31, 2020 - Lovely nose of red fruits, lots of raspberry, cherry and cranberry. As this opens up the palate becomes more complex with spice and licorice. The fruit is on the tart side and this wine is better with food than alone. Needed a long decant on day one as the tannins are still quite strong, smoothed out on day two and was drinking better although the trade off is some of that zippy freshness to the fruit.

February 29, 2020 - rich purple red color, wild and pure nose of chocolate coated chalk and black fruits, cola notes, palate ripe and open fruit with chalk and cocoa notes, a very fun wine with firm and hard dark bramble notes on the tight structure keeping it all together, floral notes with time, still very primary but fun to drink now, some development potential though I do not expect significant transformations, not exactly traditional- but this works, it is balanced and unique.

    ****+, now to 2030+

December 27, 2019 - Old vine Mourvèdre from one of the world’s great vineyards. 13.3% abv. Dark ruby, expressive aromatics. Raspberry and red cherry, accented with mint, spice and a floral element. Great balance and depth but lively and energetic. Should age well, but great now. Winner.
