November 28, 2019 - Yum. Vibrant. Delicious. Lush fruit and some complexity (suspect a longer decant would have helped). Really singing.
November 23, 2019 - We opened a 2005 Araujo Eisele and a 2006 Paul Hobbs BTK with great friends last night. They are both great wines and it is a luxury and privilege to be able to drink them. The Araujo was long and smooth but the group consensus favored the Hobbs BTK for being a little more rich and offering more nuance and secondary flavors. Both wines were drinking very well after a 1 hour decant and are well into their drinking window.
November 22, 2019 - Based on my notes and score when we last opened this six years ago, we loved it back then, and it is as good or better now. This vintage was the clear winner tasted alongside the 2007 Araujo. Tons of rich, deep black fruit in the nose and flavor. Black currants, blackberries, black cherries, and black raspberries, along with licorice, chocolate, and earthy and floral notes. The 2005 Araujo is very well balanced, complex, full bodied, and ends with a long lingering silky finish. Delicious!
November 16, 2019 - Iinitially this seemed a bit over the hill with a stewed brown leafy aroma and dried out flavors, but after giving it some air this really came a live and was quite classic for a bit of an older Napa can. Dark dusty black cherry fruits nice spice, depth, and textures. Suggest drinking up sooner vs later.
June 15, 2019 - After being wowed by a couple of bottles of the “05 over the past 9 years, then somewhat underwhelmed by a full case of the same in between those, I was fittingly rewarded me with one more fond memory of the ‘05, with it being my last bottle. Wish I have more!
June 3, 2019 - Sweet and tannins completely resolved. Very smooth after several hours. It does need air time. But after 5 hours, it was smooth and tasty. Not quite up to what I paid for it but quite good with sufficient air.
March 14, 2019 - We drank two Cabs with our best wine friends Michael and Kohar: a 2012 Schrader LPV that was decanted for about 60 minutes and a 2005 Araujo Eisele that was opened and poured. An excellent compare and contrast between the bright Schrader and the softer, more plush Araujo. The Schrader is a great wine, but the Araujo was the consensus favorite. At the end of the evening I felt freed to drink more older cabs and reminded to keep my hands off the rest. We’ll see how long that second part lasts.
February 28, 2019 - Dark black fruits, some VA initially that mostly blew off, sweet tannins, very intense wine, vanilla, white pepper, great mouthfeel. Love it.
February 28, 2019 - Mostly Napa Cabernet Dinner (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): This has developed beautifully. Really sexy Napa cult nose displaying crème de cassis, blackberry jam, violet, milk chocolate, violet, vanilla, cedar, a hint of leather, dark spices, lead pencil and earth. The oak is very strong and seems to be heavily toasted. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of cassis, silky and round, bright acidity, still noticeable fine tannins, and a long opulent black fruit driven finish. It is a sexy opulent wine. If you are a fan of cult cab, you outta try a bottle. It is drinking so well that I don’t see a point of waiting.
February 9, 2019 - Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind Cabernet (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind in Cabernet from around the world tasting. Black plum and cherry with both sweet and savory spice. Ripe and clearly New World, but with wonderful freshness and balance. Seemed younger than its actual age. Very good now. My favorite of the tasting.
