July 25, 2020 - Informal dinner, no notes taken. Like so many of these 90s Opus, this 1994 is on fire. Perfectly aged with lots of tertiary aromas (mainly tobacco) complementing the ripe dark and blue forest berries, with good precision. It has a lot of tension, beautifully mellowed tannins and superb freshness and tension. This 94s has not the depth and sharpness of the 1996 or 1997 but still is a great wine. Let‘s just all hope the current vintages will age as well as these 90s. Just a short 30 minute decant, which was sufficient.

June 7, 2020 - I have been waiting for a suitable occasion to open this famous Californian and some succulent pré salé lamb on the menu seemed a good opportunity. Upon opening the bottle exuded a strong fruity and oaky aroma but happily the latter had calmed down by the time the meal started. This was a big full wine showing rich mature fruit, some secondary development, velvety texture with a creamy patina, decent acidity and ripe enrobés tannins still perceptible on the decently long finish. However there was a slightly confected and synthetic seeming overtone to the aromas which prevent me from placing this at the summit of my Mount Olympus of Californian memories alongside Mondavi's Reserve, Dominus and Ridge Montebello. Very good, though.

December 16, 2019 - 1994 California Cabernet Blind Tasting (Michelangelo Hotel, New York): Musty nose. Some fruit with a long wood finish. Still youthful with enough fruit and some tertiary notes. Like an aged Bordeaux. Contender for WOTN.

November 8, 2019 - Napa Cult CabSav 1994 dinner (Singapore): Expressive nose. Earthy, spicy, some pepper as well. A touch denser with a bit more oak then the Mondavi Reserve next to it. Very good balance here as well. Excellent showing.

November 4, 2019 - Served this for my son's 25th birthday. I agree with a previous reviewer that I should have opened it for his 21st. Decanted for an hour. Beautiful nose but the wine has a bit of funk. Opened up a bit nicer after 2 hours, but just not as enjoyable as it was 10 years ago. Drink up!
