March 14, 2021 - (5/5) - Deep ruby purple. Gorgeous color in the glass.
(15/15) - Fantastic nose of blue and blackberries, brown sugar, sage, wet stone, touch of vanilla.
(18/20) - Exceptional balance, yet could age very well another decade. Acidity just enough to lift this and keep it energetic, sweet/fine tannin structure, and no noticeable abv heat.
(8/10) - The best Sonoma Cabernets in my opinion come from Aperture. Jesse is killing it. Room for a point or two as 2016 vintage continues to take shape. 96+

August 20, 2020 - This is a 100% single vineyard Cabernet made from the Del Rio vineyard which sits in Alexander Valley on a steep hillside on the top of Chalk Hill. Made by the young, up and coming winemaker Jesse Katz. This was a dark garnet in color with a fragrant nose. This rich wine had flavors of blueberry, blackberry, lavender, vanilla, and pencil shavings on the finish. The first time I drank this I had a small glass and thought this wine might be a touch sweet. On further review and several glasses of the second bottle I found this to be a medium bodied, plush, easy drinking wine. This wine did have very juicy fruit but there was just enough structure to balance it out. This was a PNP at a wine bar and within 15-30 minutes this was hitting on all cylinders. A drink now kind of wine. At first I was a bit put off by a $125 Sonoma cab but this wine was worth the money IMHO and I went home with another bottle. This wine was a favorite of the wine critics. March 27, 2020 - Out of the gate, still a bit chilled, gorgeous purple ruby at the rim. Loads of dark fruit, blackberry cobbler, licorice, cassis, Sage/mint. Not too acidic but enough. Grippy tannins in the cheeks and tongue. Dark fruit carries, cigar notes. 94-95 in my books have to see how it evolves as it warms and gets air time.

September 2, 2019 - The wine looks garnet colored. It smells like raspberry, blackberry and flint. The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. If that sounds like a robotic tasting then essentially this wine is young but still polished and structured. Well balanced. Should age well for the next 10 years but drink now if you like.
