January 9, 2024 - medium purple color. nose with lots of bell pepper with some dark cherries, mint, and gravel. medium plus bodied with medium grade acidity. dark fruited palate with gravelly tannins.
day 2- really freshened up. good cali cab but still needs a sturdy decant or a couple of years
day 3- still good fruit but a bit more transparent and showing ashy earth
May 20, 2023 - Opened, poured and let sit about 35 min: Then: Not much on the nose. Taste starts out with that nice touch of green that Rieslingfan noted, although that fades by the end of the glass. Tannins not an issue; acidity OK; structure holding; mouthfeel tending to the soft side. Somewhat reddish fruit by the end of the glass. Very nice change from the more typical rich, lush, ripe Cali cabs, but still seems to be missing the more traditional cabernet profile. Nice, pleasant drink.
January 22, 2021 - Notes similar to my previous bottle, though there was more structure than I remembered. Held up very well over three nights. I have another bottle or two, which I will hold for a bit.
January 5, 2021 - When I want a wine with a distinct nod to the old world, I often reach for a bottle from Enfield Wine Co. John’s efforts with Cabernet Sauvignon do more than just nod to the old world, they are imbued with a soul that speaks to soil and spine. This particular bottle has a core of cool fruit, herbs and spice, that never ventures near overripeness. The texture is a little bumpy, the road not perfectly paved. There’s a touch of green in the mid-palate, reminding me that not every Cabernet has to be supple and rich like compote. The edges give definition, handles to grab onto, and a signals to an evolution that will still show form, rather than settle into a bland carpet of richness. My love for this style of wine is based on a relationship where the wine is a full partner, rather than just being subservient. It can participate, even challenge in the conversation, and not just nod its head in approval.
December 22, 2020 - Florals, berries and pepper/spice. Typical Enfield in that it shows restraint but not at the expense of flavor or richness. Drinking well already though no rush.
May 19, 2020 - Outstanding. Starts off with a little bit of dusty red fruit and then slides into these deeper, juicy, dark fruit notes. Great acidity to keep it fresh and pure. Loved it.
October 18, 2018 - One Years Work, One Nights Tasting (Morrell Wine): The nose was zesty and fresh, with peppery florals, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and wild herbs. On the palate, I found lifted textures with floral-infused tart cherry and strawberry, energizing acidity, inner herbal tones and fine tannin, which added poise. The finish was medium-long, fresh, and spicy, with peppery florals resonating throughout.
