Community Tasting Notes 3

May 14, 2013 - Could not help feeling a bit necrophilic opening this 20 yr old bottle. Not surprisingly, it was quite brawn along the edges. Initial thoughts were: OTT. But the nose was in fact very good, with the mature earthy, leaves-in-decay like notes. The first mouth impression was a big surprise: Lots of firm tannins! Took an hour to open up, and by the it showed lots of life, the tannins mellowing somewhat - but still there. Drink now for sure, if you haven't already. It will probably last a few more years but unlikely to be enhanced by this.

September 1, 2007 - very nice and oakful taste, but a little bit faded, probably past it's drinking window

October 5, 2004 - Brunello Di Montalcino (Vino, NYC): ($90) burnt orange in color. big earthy bouquet, mushrooms on the palate with tart fruit finish. Never well regarded, but past its drinking window.
