March 27, 2021 - A Memorable Saturday (Various Spots in the Santa Ynez Valley): I thought this was make an interesting pairing with the 1969 Chappellet featured at this tasting, as Galloni's effusive notes on the latter wine mentioned how it echoed LMBH, and this indeed rang true for us. My second recent tasting of this wine, and it continues to impress, with this bottle showing a bit more concentration and depth of flavor. Fully mature, with savory blue and black fruit notes, some ashy smokiness and a saddle leather. A bit clipped on the finish.

December 7, 2020 - Really in a nice place, smooth cassis overlaid with tobacco, gravel, and minty herb. Tannins mostly resolved, nice length, holds up well over entire evening. A pointe. B+/A-

July 24, 2020 - Double Blind. Dark minty old. Sweet fruit tobacco herbal. / Palate really savory and herbal. Earth. Excellent depth and balance. Not heavy at all. By the time I got to this others had already gotten it narrowed down to BDX. Someone thought Right-Bank but hat was clearly not the case. I guessed Mouton based on the depth, complexity and mint. When that was nixed, someone went to Graves which would have been my next move as well, and when that was confirmed I guessed 75 La Mission. My WOTN. 17.5/20.

Day 2: Great nose. Dark and complex, savory - big herbal tobacco component with lots of minerality, a bit of fruit but not too much, some autumnal notes. I'm pretty sure that scorched earth thing is there - but of course I know what the wine is now so I could be projecting. It's definitely dark and savory. Beautiful on the palate - wow. Very mature and it isn't as dark as it probably was, but it is Burgundian to me - very perfumed with a robe, gentle but flavorful, wide and complex. Savory with tobacco and minerals, hints of red fruits - wild strawberry but very subtle. The finish is long and wide with tobacco and a wonderful mineral tang. Superb. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20.

June 2, 2020 - From a bottle with low neck fill. Deep color, thick and almost viscus.
Nose, big Cabernet fruit. Ripe plums with a hint of mahogany.
Fat, thickish and weighted Cabernet fruit. Long and lingering finish of black currants.

February 19, 2020 - Nose: blackberry, cedar, bell pepper, thyme and mineral. Palate: wild berries, cherry, herb and mineral notes. Did not exhibit a lot of the typicity that the 1980 had tonight.
