August 15, 2019 - Still quite deep of colour and very fresh on the nose. Has some lead pencil, leather, purple flowers and a core of rich cassis fruit. It is nicely balanced and elegant, playing in that lovely space between vibrant fruit and secondary savoury flavours. Length is good.

January 6, 2017 - From Art's cellar. A real surprise. Old-time rustic St Estephe. Only center of the bowl was still reddish. Light to darker amber (but no orange) radiated to the rim. Good nose of purple fruit, some "unripe green," and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth, this is what I remember the old-time St Estephes tasted like from my Dad's cellar, long ago. Tannins were resolved, good soft black currants, some earth and a tinge of green at the end of an admittedly shorter finish. Wonderful wine for the vintage.

July 29, 2016 - A perfect bottle decanted for 2hrs. Nice blackcurrant fruit but just a touch green and dry on the finish. A fantastic wine for the vintage, but not near other vintages that cost little more (nice as the 1989 is, for me the 1985 and 1990 are shamelessly overlooked and a significant step up from this).

November 7, 2014 - Big fan of this wine. Some of the best values/QPR in bordeaux right now are wines from premier houses in "off" vintages.
